I cheated in m last cowl and knit the two sides together instead of learning to graft. I found the you tube instructional video on grafting. It was actually pretty wonderful. I do enjoy watching those videos and I often wonder, who the heck thought of that?? how did they figure that out?? The Kirtchner stitch is complex until you figure it out... It is so cool and I love having all of the lessons I need.. right at my fingertips. I made my second cowl a little shorter. It will be a little tighter to the neck. awesome...
My life with fiber is messy, complex, beautiful and satisfying. For 35 + years ( wow has it been that long) it has been my companion.

Two new things
Now on the the next project. For my dear UK sister by another mister Suzanne Wild. A pair of socks. I have heard all kinds of great things about Malabrigo yarn. It is a small south american yarn company that does all of its dying in small batches. This yarn got such rave reviews that I could not NOT try it. I asked Suz what color she wanted in her socks and she said Terra Cotta - brick or lettuce.. and well - this is what I picked... I know..I know... nothing like what she said. But to me it looks like spring flowers peeping out of the ground, and I have to look at it while I am making it-- so I guess I choose...:-) I wanted her to have a choice...
but when it came down to it.. knitting is so personal for me that I wanted to choose something for her that would be what I thought of her.. and her little tootsies.. she is like a spring flower - full a vibrant color and creativity...it will remind me of her as I knit.
And that brings me back to my first love and my first project above - my daughter is a freakin moviestar. She has this 40s and 50s appeal that is amazing - the piece I am working for her will marry her movie star persona with her earthiness... and fairy like qualities... isnt she something. Wow sometimes I cannot believe I gave birth to that.
